SLAWISE – Sierra Leone Association of Women in Sciences was inaugurated during the 2nd Annual Science Education Workshop, May 2013. SLAWISE is a regional network for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine (STEM) in industry, enterprise and academia.

It is a forum to both be offered help. Furthermore it is a supportive environment to talk about issues that can be difficult to raise in competitive scientific environments.

At SLAWiSE, we are role models that encourage and motivate girls, ladies, women of diverse cultures and nationalities to pursue the sciences. It is our dream and vision to inspire everyone woman to stand out in the sciences.

One of our core objectives is to help build and preserve the participation of Women in science, engineering and technology (SET) fields in both industry and academia by organizing capacity building/ networking meetings and access to a mentoring scheme as well as gathering and distributing information.

To support and sustain the growth of the Sierra Leone Association of Women in Science and Engineering (SLAWiSE), we came up with a programme called Gender Promotion Initiative where we provide mentorship for women and girls into careers in science and maths and prepare them for future leadership roles in the community. As part of our social responsibility we also take these mentorship programmes very seriously as there are the core of what we stand for.
